Bearded vulture

Beraded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus) is a bird of prey.

Beraded vulture lives in mountains of southern Europe, the Caucasus, Africa, India and Tibet. Populations are resident.

Bearded vulture lives in mountains with plentiful cliffs, crags, precipices, canyons and gorges. They are rare below an elevation of 1.000 meters and normally live above 2.000 meters.

The Bearded vulture has got a small head, powerful and thick neck. The color of Bearded vulture is dark gray, rusty and whitish color. Creamy-coloured forehead and black band across the eyes. Chin have a black beard.

Food habitat

It feeds on remains of dead animals and bone marrow.

Reproduction

Bearded vulture nests in caves and on rock walls. Female usually lays a clutch of 1 to 2 eggs, incubated for 53 to 60 days. The young spend 100 to 130 days in the nest. Bearded vultures live lifespan of 21.4 years.

Causes of being endangered

The Bearded vulture is in danger of extinction because of threatened due tu poisons for carnivores, habitat degradation and collisions with power lines.
