As you know cooking is for us Italians a very important part of our lives and of our tradition. Italians like eating in company very much: either with family or friends. Also, when you live with parents, it is considered a great lack of respect do not dine together around the table or do not notify us in time if you plan to stay out to eat with friends .When you decide to eat out, like it usually happens on Saturday night with friends, in Italy there are several options to choose :1)The restaurant: normally offers food and wine of a good quality and is the designated place to eat especially meat, fish, rice and more or less elaborate dishes.2)The trattoria made in Italy ": it is like a restaurant, sometimes family-run; it offers a less sophisticated and more tradizional kind of cooking. It is furnished in a less elegant and more homemade way. It is, friendly and the prices are slightly lower than the classic restaurant.3)The tavern: it is a more familiare andare casual place where you can eat very well at reasonable prices.4)The pizzeria: the ideal place for a casual evening with friends for a delicious pizza and a good beer.

The menuThe menu that you can find in any restaurant or Italian trattoria includes many dishes.Meals are divided in appetizer/starter, first plate, second plate, vegetable garnish , fruit, dessert. There is a big difference between each of them. The former are constituted only by pasta or rice dishes (for example, spaghetti with sauce, lasagna, pasta carbonara, risotto Milanese, tortellini, ravioli, noodles, etc.).The seconds are flat at low meat or fish. You can choose to accompany them with a side dish, usually of vegetables. The contours serve to accompany a main dish as a second and, in fact, the amount of the portion is quite small.Fruit becomes before the dessert. Finally, you Can Take a dessert. The cake can be a slice of cake, a portion of tiramisu, or an ice cream etc.Despite our cuisine is known worldwide especially for pasta and pizza, our daily diet is based on very varied diet, which includes legumes, vegetables, fruits, meat, fish etc. Each region has its dishes and the number of recipes is really endless!

Italia meals are basically three: breakfast, lunch and dinner.BreakfastBreakfast is fairly simple and usually consists of a hot beverage such as coffee, milk or tea and something sweet like cookies, cereals or the classic bread, butter and jam, a croissant. If breakfast is done in a bar, it is typical to take a cappuccino or espresso with croissant filled with jam or chocolate cream or yellow (most often Nutella!).Cappuccino unlike as is believed abroad we Italians we take it only for breakfast and never, ever after noon or during a main meal as lunch or dinner! The lunch hour is usually from 13.00 to 14.00.Normally, if you have lunch at home, eating a nice plate of pasta with a simple sauce such as tomato sauce, for example. Then you go directly to the fruit and many people also give a good coffee before returning to work. The traditional Sunday lunch or parties, however, includes a first course (pasta or rice) and a meat or fish with a vegetable garnish. Then, finally fruit, dessert and coffee (strictly espresso!).Dinner is one of the most important moments in the lives of Italians. It is the time when the whole family can gather around the table to eat together after a long day of work. At dinner they eat typically lighter foods such as soups, salads, cheese, eggs, meat or fish and vegetables.

    Bread

Bread is the base of the Mediterranean diet and is one of the food we consume more in Italy. We Italians have a great tradition in the elaboration of fresh bread. The bakeries sell day freshly baked bread and we prefer to buy directly from the oven .The bread, depending on the form, has different names and varies from region to region.Warning: Never eat bread together with the pasta!Pasta is a complex dish already complete , so for us to eat bread and pasta together does not make sense!Another feature on the Italian way of eating is that we do not have the habit of putting a large plate at the center of the table from which everyone can use. Everyone has a dish (or two or three!) Each one of them intended for every different scope. There will be a flat bottom for pasta, risotto or soup; another for the second, a saucer for the contour and a saucer for the sweet or fruit.

    PIZZA

The pizza is the Italian food par excellence. There are many flavors but the classics are:Margherita (tomato, basil and mozzarella): It was created by a Neapolitan pizza maker in honor of Queen Margherita di Savoia.Romana (tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, ham)Capricciosa (tomato, mozzarella, ham, artichokes and mushrooms)Four flavors or four seasons (tomato, mozzarella, ham, mushrooms or artichokes, sausage)Diavola (tomato, mozzarella Saleme spicy)In addition to these there are hundreds of different tastes and even though these are the "classic", every pizza maker may decide to modify the original recipe and propose his own version. Each person eats an entire pizza or at least the pizza is individual. To many it seems impossible to finish a whole pizza, but I assure you that it really is a breeze!Warning: Never ever in a real Italian pizzeria you will find toppings like chicken, egg, carbonara sauce, Bolognese sauce (we called sauce!) or various fruit gender and type (except in rare cases, pineapple).

    The pasta

When we eat the spaghetti, Italians usually use only a fork and are able to roll the spaghetti perfectly around it.Another important thing is how you cook the pasta :1) Fill the pot for 2 / 3 in, so that water does not spill when boils.Cover the pot with the lid (so will heat up before);2) Put the pot on the stove and wait for start bowling.3) When it boils add some salt and add the pasta;4) Leave the pot discoved: the pasta is cooked without a lid;5) Turn the pasta frequently to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot;6) Check the cooking time indicated on the packet of pasta (any format takes its time!); to check cooking and salt. If it is too hard, or inside it is white, has to cook. When it is cooked but still a little hard, it is ready. This is what is called pasta al dente.Attention: never freeze to preserve it!
